Questions, answered
The things readers ask most. Can’t find yours? We’re happy to help.
Getting started
Is Pemberley free?
Yes, every feature, with no ads. Books you don’t own yet have a link to buy them on Amazon, and we earn a small commission when you use one. That’s the only way Pemberley makes money.
What do I need to use it?
An iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Android is on the way.
How do I sign in?
With Apple, so there’s no password to remember. Sign in on a new phone and your whole library comes back.
Library & scanning
How do I add books?
Point the scanner at a barcode, or search by title or author. You can scan without a signal, and we’ll look the books up once you’re connected.
Library & scannerWhat if a book isn’t found?
Type the 10 or 13 digits above the barcode, or add it by hand with its title, author and page count.
Can I bring my Goodreads library?
Yes. Connect your public Goodreads profile, or import your export file once. Libby and Kindle highlights come over too.
Bring your booksQuotes & stats
How do I save a quote?
Snap a photo of the page and swipe across the lines you want. The photo is read on your phone and never kept.
Quotes & highlightsHow does my streak work?
Read, update your page or finish a book to count a day. One rest day is fine, and a blank today never counts against you.
Reading sessionsCan I set a reading goal?
Yes, a yearly goal for books and a daily goal for minutes. Both are optional.
Stats & goalsFriends & clubs
How do I find friends?
Share your friend code or QR, or scan theirs. There’s no searching for strangers.
Clubs & friendsHow do book clubs work?
Pick a book, set a reading plan by week, chapter or part, and invite members with a code. Everyone can see where the group is.
Privacy & your data
Who can see my shelf?
You choose: anyone with your link, only the people you follow, or just you. Any single book can be kept private too.
Do you sell my data?
No. No ads, and nothing about you or your reading is sold.
Can I take my data with me?
Anytime. Download your library as a spreadsheet or a Goodreads-style file from Settings → Privacy & data.
